You’re scrolling Instagram and see yet another broad abroad. A stunning IG model and part-time yoga instructor riding on the back of a motorbike in Bali, her head tilted toward the sun. One arm stretches skyward while the other clutches the 6-packed torso of some ridiculously hot guy.

Double tap.

Next, a different broad abroad hikes through the Swiss Alps, smiling alongside new friends she met at a hostel in Germany. She’s on day 11 of her epic month-long backpacking trip across Europe.

Double tap.

Then, there’s the morning routine of a girl in Australia, up at 5 AM for a run with her club. Later, she’s in a wetsuit, effortlessly gliding across the waves like she’s dancing on water.

Double tap.

You close the app and return to life as you know it, knowing deep down there’s an adventure calling your name, begging you to leap.

Eventually, you face a choice:

Do I answer the call, or do I keep double-tapping my way through other people’s adventures?

Welcome to Another Broad Abroad

If you’re reading this, you either:
A) Answered the call and living abroad (yay, you šŸŽ‰), or
B) Living vicariously through others, wondering where to start.

Either way, you’re here because you’re looking for a space that feels safe, supportive, and real—one that nurtures the traveler inside you and ignites your sense of possibility.

That’s why I created this newsletter.

I’m Juvi—another broad abroad. While I’m no ā€œtravel influencer,ā€ I’ve spent six years figuring out this life. I left America in 2019, moved to Australia, and eventually landed in New Zealand.

Abroad, I’ve navigated visas, jobs, healthcare, insurance, hookups, heartbreak, homesickness, and everything in between. I’m here to peel back the curtain and share pieces of my own journey so you can feel seen, encouraged and held in yours.

Why a Newsletter?

It’s January 5, 2025, and I’m sitting down to write my first newsletter in almost four years. Back in 2019, during my first few months of moving to Australia, I started writing newsletters for a small group of friends and family. I loved it. It gave me space to reflect, organize my thoughts, and share my experiences with people who cared about my silly little life and my wild decision to move halfway across the world, but life got busy and the pandemic rocked my reality. Sharing updates and being vulnerable during that time just felt too raw and heavy, so I stopped.

It was during that time that I felt the most lost and alone in my journey, and I didn’t think anyone back home could really understand what it felt like to be on the other side of the world during a global lockdown. I realised I needed real connection and yearned to express my experience authentically, rather than in bite-sized fragments and highlights on Instagram.

On my journey, I’ve met incredible expats, especially women, who have these amazing stories of resilience and becoming that felt so aligned with my own. When the weight of my life abroad became heavy, their stories comforted and encouraged me, lighting a path of hope to keep me going.

So that’s why I decided to go back to writing newsletters, because it gives me the most freedom to express without a character limit or the pressure of being ā€œinstaworthyā€. This time around, though, I’m not just sharing my story, but aim to also create a community for others to share their story as well, uplifting other women through their journey abroad, so they know that while we might all be wandering this world on our terms, we’re never truly on our own.

What to Expect

Every week, I’ll share stories about living abroad:

  • Real talk about navigating life far from home,

  • Tips and lessons for making the leap, and

  • Musings on embracing this unconventional path.

  • Updates from my own unfiltered life abroad + others on this journey.

This isn’t a one-way conversation. I’d love to hear your stories too. Whether you’ve lived abroad for years or are just dreaming about it, this space is for all of us.

Who Am I?

In 2019, fresh out of college, I landed my ā€œdream jobā€ in Manhattan. On paper, it was perfect. In reality? A corporate hellholeā„¢ļø.

After months of spreadsheets and soul-crushing meetings, I was unceremoniously fired. I hit rock bottom—unemployed, heartbroken, and living with my parents.

But in the middle of that despair, I started dreaming of Australia. Sunny beaches, endless sand, and a fresh start.

Two months later, I bought a one-way ticket and never looked back.

I’ve lived abroad for nearly 6 years, 5 of which were in Australia. I recently moved to Auckland, New Zealand, where I live with my partner (who I met while traveling!).
